Self-Help Muscle Massage Tool / Portable Foam Roller

"The Tiger Tail is like a massage therapist on a stick!" —
Marathon Maniac Eric B.

"I like this better than my foam roller...it's portable, which means I can use it anywhere. Like after a run at the park and when I travel. I can even take it to work!" —
Holly G., Eugene Marathon

“My patients that are recreational and competitive athletes are sold on the benefits of immediate post-workout use of the Tiger Tail...and as an amateur triathlete - so am I! The Tiger Tail gives patients an opportunity to have some control over pain. Patients often have a hard time grading the force needed for self-treatment with trigger points. They push too hard and cause more soreness in many cases. The Tiger Tail is easier and a more effective self-treatment…” —

  • Portable, easy to pack design is great for travel. Washes clean easily.

General Tips for Use:

  • Designed for use on skin or one layer of clothing.
  • The Tiger Tail is very durable and strong, and will not break under proper use.
  • Relax muscles as you roll. Roll your muscles as deep as you feel comfortable, remembering that you don't have to hurting your muscles to help your muscles.
  • The Tiger Tail is most effective when used throughout the course of activity: before, during and after.
  • Muscle soreness may occur when the Tiger Tail is used excessively.

General Instructions:

  • It typically takes 10-20 rolls over the muscle to warm up healthy muscle tissue. This equates to working each muscle area for about 10-20 seconds. To be most effective, it works best to progressively press harder on the muscle area with each roll.
  • Massage therapists refer to tender bumps or knots in the muscle as "trigger points." The presence of trigger points often indicate weak, stiff and sore muscles which can hinder athletic performance because they easily tire and often hurt.
  • When the Tiger Tail passes over a "trigger point" discomfort or pain may be experienced; however, most people find this feeling to feel good - especially when the Tiger Tail assists the muscle in releasing the "cramp".
  • Chronic trigger points often need additional attention. Slowly and gradually work the Tiger Tail deeper into the muscle to work out the trigger point. Using the Tiger Tail several times daily may be necessary. Over the course of time, trigger points should lessen in severity.
  • Before beginning any type of therapy or treatment, seek the advice of a physician.

Wonderful Tool!
I bought "The Stick" as an impulse buy at a sporting goods store to massage the muscles in my legs. Plastic rings roll independently over a stiff pole making it a very hard surface. I had to use care to avoid coming close to my shins or any other bony areas. It's not a very pleasant-feeling tool and the little plastic rings rattle as you run up and down your muscles. It feels like rolling a metal pipe up and down your legs (although it's plastic). I decided to check out Amazon - which I should have done before buying anything to begin with -and discovered the 22" Tiger Tail Rolling foam massager and I prefer it, hands down. It's pretty much a very hard, foam rolling pin and feels like it gets deeper into my muscles than the plastic rings of The Stick which ride without resistance over the surface of my skin. The foam has just enough give to prevent bruising if I inadvertently run into a bone. This means I'm able to massage a greater surface area with less caution and my muscles feel much better after using the Tiger Tail over The Stick. I feel like I can use the Tiger Tail with much greater pressure and work more deeply than with The Stick. The only downside is the Tiger Tail is 22 3/8" long with a 14" rolling foam work surface whereas The Stick is 24" long with a 16 1/2" work surface. This makes working on the back or other areas where length is a plus easier with The Stick. (Diameter is 4.5" for the Tiger Tail, 3.5" for The Stick) But for me, the Tiger Tail makes my muscles feel deeply well-kneaded and vibrant whereas The Stick makes them almost feel injured and my skin sensitive. Oh - and The Tiger Tail is much cheaper than The Stick. That's just hard to figure out.

Not bad...
This product is good for broad, major muscles, particularly calves and thighs. However, around joint areas like ankles and knees, the pressure's more blunt making it harder to work sensitive areas thoroughly. Otherwise, it's good. Works well on your face too! :) (area with highest concentration of muscle mass in the body!)

Great product!
This was an amazon suggestion, and I'm so grateful I found this! I took it to a family reunion right after I got this and at least 4 other people want one too. What I love is the ability to control the pressure, and with this I'm able to work on areas like my shins that are tight but are very very tricky to roll out by lying on a foam roller. We've also discovered that this is great if you have very tight muscles in your neck and need constant deep pressure in a massage from someone else--but this helps avoid finger/hand tiring of the massager. Can't think of anything that would make this better. Easy to use, does what it says it will and should! (FYI, I had also tried a standard rolling pin--it didn't work very well...this is wonderful!)
